Oshogatsu

On New Year's day, I visited a shrine (Hatsumode) and made a wish for the new year.
Then I bought "Omikuji"--a sacred lottery at the temple. My fortune for this year is..."Kichi" which is not too good, not too bad. Oh well...as long as it is not "Kyo (curse)", I am happy with it.

Then, at my parent's house, all the family members got together and ate Osechi and Ozoni, the traditional new year dishes in Japan. I am afraid of gaining weight after Oshogatsu...

I've tried that fortune forecast years before with a half-Japanese friend.

My fortune was also not that good so in accordance with custom, I have to tie that bad luck to a tree just outside the temple so that it won't follow me. ^ ^;

We feel the same guilt of gaining weight, Kay. ^ ^

I think getting fit shall be our new year's resolution for this year. ^ ^;

Hello Kay,

This "Osechi-ryori" looks very beautiful and delicious. Your mother cooked it? What a great cook!

My New Year's Resolution is to get the first level of "Eiken" or English proficiency test. I'm going to make an effort toward the vertical direction as you said.
What about yours?

Write to you again,

Well, I don't think you should avoid visiting the Philippines on New Year's Day. After all, it's the way we celebrate it. The best thing for you to do is to stay indoors so that you won't get shot by stray bullets...

It seems that everyone has a good time in the New Year.
For most Taiwanese students, we are going to hold our final exam from January 5.
So we have to forget about every happy thing about the New Year since January 1 and start to review the courses, if we don't wanna fail them, hahaaa....
By the way, my Japanese teacher last week introduced some Japanese traditions to us, including Osechi Ryori." We are eager to eat them. That's such a fantastic cuisine^^!!

OK, but to tell you the truth, I don't like crowded places. So, I will visit there when no special events are going on.

Good luck on your exam! You reminded me of my school years...
