The Filipinos and Japanese share a common hobby: karaoke!
Yes, karaoke is also a popular past-time here in the Philippines. People here buy their own karaoke microphones and song chips and sing at the comfort of their own homes while others flock to KTV bars and restaurants and rent private rooms which can accommodate a large family.
Karaoke for some may be their way to kill boredom and frustration but for most of the time, karaoke is always a part of almost any occasion. From town fiestas, to birthday parties, to family reunions, every occasion which they can use as an excuse to sing karaoke!
I wish I could go karaoke with my friends! It's nice to see that you still hang-out with folks from Radio Japan!
Kuya Fuji, Are you a Filipino also? Well, I agree with what you said.
Kay, Kuya Fuji forgot to mention that some drink alcohol and eat "pulutan" or snacks before singing. Its sad to admit, however, that because of that habit, many people die. Excessive drinking of alcohol makes people lose consciousness, and when that happens, the one who drank usually does everything without him knowing it.
But despite that, we still enjoy singing with the karaoke!
Like Kay I thoroughly enjoyed Shokan's interview with you, also. Didn't know you are from the South. I wonder if I can find a "gator" or "polliwog" sushi roll over there.

Oh, yes I do...!In fact, I have a folder in our computer which is filled with theme songs of anime series played there. It's very sad to note however, that we are not connected to cable TV anymore, and is not really updated with the famous songs there in Japan...
I am from Tochigi about 2 hours north of Tokyo.
After high school, I went to the U.S. and graduated from the College of William and Mary in Virginia.
Now I live in Tokyo and work as an announcer and a stage actor.

Yes, kabayan. I'm a Filipino too!
I've been listening to World Interactive since the Ryan-Kay duo days! I've been a Phone-Out guest too.
Hi Kay
How are you? I hope all is well and you are doing fine.
WI is not the same without you.
Although, time was too short, I enjoyed meeting you.

I'm happy to know that I have a kababayan here in Kay's blog...
Anyway, we're having a party here at home this evening and, we have rented a karaoke at our home. It cost us P500 to rent one here in Laoag City.

When you click on the Karaoke photo, you will find two boxes/trays of "LETTERE D'AMOUR" on the counter top next to Kaori.

Yes, I sing in Japanese too. ^-^
Mostly I sing TV soundtrack themes but I also sing enka(!) whenever I watch NHK Kayo Concert.
My favorite Japanese songs are Sayonara no Mukougawa, MARCH, Galaxy Express 999 and Kiyoshi no Soran Bushi. ^-^
